Bad days for IT education

A whopping over 2-3 lakh seats are likely to fall vacant 780 engineering colleges in both Telangana and AP and over 35 such colleges could shut down in year 2017-18

According to AICTE( All India Council for Technical Education ) of the 15.5 lakh BE/B Tech seats in 3,291 engineering colleges across the country, over half-51 per cent (7.8 lakh seats) were vacant in 2016-17 and the ratio is likely to shoot up to 65 percent in 2017-18 with the H1B restrictions in the US.

Last year, roughly eight lakh BE/BTech students graduated, but only about 40 per cent got jobs through campus placement as campus placements has been under 50 per cent for the last five years.
