Duronto Express derails, 4th accident in a row

As a third similar incident, Nagpur-Mumbai Duronto Express has derailed in Maharashtra. It was at early morning 6.40 AM Duronto express has derailed between Vasind and Asangaon stations near Thane.

The engine and Five coaches of Duronto have derailed. Early morning traffic and office goers commute has been badly hit. All the trains arriving/departing from Nasik and Nagpur are delayed.

A Central Railway official said that the cause of the accident is due to a sudden landslide in the hilly terrain. All the coaches and the engine have been reinstated.

Officials state that the Kasara and Asangaon suburban trains were running upto Titwala only.

The CSMT-Howrah Gitanjali Express, which departs from Mumbai early morning, has been diverted via Kalyan-Karjat-Pune-Daund-Manmad route.

Thane to CSMT suburban local trains running 20 minutes late, while Harbour line trains are just 5 minutes delayed.

– 22102 Manmad-CSMT Rajyarani Express at Igatpuri
– 12110 Manmad-CSMT Panchavati Express at Igatpuri
– 12118 Manmad-LTT Express is fully cancelled

Amravati-Mumbai Express, Nagpur-Mumbai Vidharbha and Sevagram Express and all other trains arriving to Mumbai via Kasara affected.

Scores of passengers are stranded on the railway tracks and adding to this spells of rain is also a hardship for affected passengers.

This accident follows a passenger train derailment in Mumbai, Kaifiyat Express derailment at Muzzafar Nagar and Utkal Express in UP.

Union Rail Minister Suresh Prabhu’s offer to resignation taking the responsibility for these mishaps, is pending for decision with PM Narendra Modi.
