Telangana state has set a rare precedent of recognising the single women officially, by announcing pension to the single women.
Telangana government has come up with the scheme of providing Rs 1000 per month for single women, to save them from dire financial difficulties and to lend them a helping hand. Telangana Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekara Rao has announced this in the Assembly on Friday. With this announcement, probably a first-of-its-kind, Telangana has become the first state to accept the status and address the problems of single women.
According to the state government’s estimates about two to three lakh single women might be present in the state. While Government has officially announced the scheme, it will be implemented from next financial year.
Soon collectors of all districts will be ordered to come up with data of single women in all districts in Telangana. However government is yet to give clear details on who can be considered as single woman.
