iddarammayilatho Review : Puri disappoints once again

Audience come to theatre to watch a movie by spending money and more importantly three hours of time, only if they have great confidence on the movie’s team. Therefore movie makers have great responsibility on their shoulders to stand up to audience expectations. Unfortunately, of late movie makers have been ignoring this basic fact and making movies irresponsibly. They have gone forward and countering critics and reviewers saying that, it’s easy to judge a movie as good or bad but it’s very hard to make one. With two big stars in their crafts, Allu Arjun and Puri Jagannath joining hands, Iddarammayilatho has raised huge expectations right from the beginning. Let’s see whether this much awaited movie stands up to the audience expectations or not.

Akanksha (Catherine) is the daughter of Union Minister. She goes to Europe for her studies. There she finds Komali’s (Amala Paul) diary in her room. She starts reading it. Komali comes to Europe to learn music with Fidel Brahma (Brahmanandam). She meets Sanju (Allu arjun) there. He is a guitarist. Both fall in love. Even their family members accept to their marriage proposal. Photography is Komali’s hobby. Without her knowledge she shoots a murder. Knowing this villain gang follows her. Sanju saves Komali twice but could not save third time. What happened to Komali? What turns did Sanju’s life take from there onwards, forms part of the rest of the story.

Puri once gave a statement that, to make a movie one need not have a story. It seems he has made Iddarammayilatho movie with that confidence itself — A boy and girl fall in love, villain gang kills the girl, boy takes revenge on the villains — if a new director approached a producer with this story no producer will give at least an appointment leave about opportunity. But Bandla Ganesh invested huge budget on Puri Jagannath. That’s the power of stardom and craze in film industry. Leave aside producer’s judgement, what happened to hero Allu arjun’s judgement?

Audience get to know about the story in the beginning itself when Catherine starts reading diary. Audience can expect the twist in the beginning itself. As a result, suspense element which Puri might have thought to click fizzles out. Audience have to wait till interval for that twist. After interval there isn’t much story. Puri has run the show with psycho comedy track between Brahmanandam and Ali. Never has been comedy so poor in Puri’s films. Puri is known for elevating heroism and punch dialogues. Even these elements are not there in Iddarammayilatho movie. Barring two or three punches here and there, dialogues are just average.

Bunny has excelled in dances, fights and performance. He is absolutely brilliant. But what’s the use? Cinematography and production qualities are outstanding. While Amala paul down played, Catherine increased dose. Ali, Srinivasa Reddy, Khayyum among others are just present.

Puri has once again shown his affection for Reddys in the movie. Besides to that there is a lengthy dialogue on caste feeling. Besides to these Bunny, Puri and Ganesh danced for topulechipoddi song after the end title, as if they have achieved some great thing. They even sent warning that second part is coming.

Audience are watching Puri films though he is giving continuous flops. They are still hoping that he will make a good movie and showing confidence on him. Puri disappointed them even this time. No one can find fault with Puri’s taking and technical brilliance. But that isn’t enough to make a movie hit. Story is the backbone of a movie. Unless Puri recognises this basic fact, he can’t stand up to the audience expectations. In crisp, Iddarammayilatho will disappoint Allu Arjun and Puri’s fans, who have great expectations on this film.
