Review:

Srinu Vaitla Mark Cinema

We should not underestimate mass story. Same story may be used many times, same character may be portrayed by many actors many times. If director has talent, if scenes are written newly, he can make audience sit through out and enjoy the film. Srinu Vaitla is a director with such image. One should not under estimate a mass hero. If he gets a proper role he will rule box office. One hit is enough to forget 10 flops. NTR is such a type of hero. Tiger does not eat grass even if hunting is stopped. A tiger is tiger forever. When the situation demands, its common for star heroes to show their might. That time has come for NTR. He has selected the right director. Came up as Baadshah. Baadshah released amid huge expectations. Did Baadshah NTR reach the expectations? Was Srinu Vaitla able to do magic? What hungama did both of them create? Let’s know.

Mafia don Sadhu Bhai (Kelly Dorjee) operates in various countries like Hongkong, Singapore, Malaysia. Dhanraj (Mukesh Rishi) oversees operations in Hongkong. Baadshah (NTR) is his son. Baadshah is a terror for opponents. By seeing his sharpness Sadhu Bhai entrusts a work to Baadshah. Baadshah successfully completes it. As a result craze for Baadshah increases in mafia. In one issue differences erupt between Baadshah and Sadhu Bhai. Baadshah challenges with Sadhu Bhai that he will put an end to Sadhu’s mafia kingdom. Meanwhile Hongkong police and Interpol officials start hunt for Baadshah. To escape from them, Baadshah runs away to Italy and changes his name as Rama Rao. There he meets Janaki (kajal) and falls in love with her. But she is already engaged to Adi (Navdeep). To break that engagement and marry Janaki, Rama Rao comes to India. Adi, is the police officer who is on to nab Baadshah. Why Adi wants to catch Baadshah? What’s the enmity between them? Why Baadshah went to Italy for Janaki? Why he joined mafia? All these form the interesting points which have to be seen on screen.

Srinu Vaitla knows very well, how to mix action, entertainment and heroism in the story. All his hit films have followed that formula. He has followed the same formula even in this film.

Cinema starts on a jolly note with comedy scenes between Kajal, NTR and Vennela Kishore in Italy. Comedy picks up with the introduction of Revenge Nageshwar Rao (MS Narayana). MS Narayana imitated almost all directors ranging from RGV to Boyapati Seenu mannerisms and created hilarious comedy. NTR joined Srinu Vaitla in creating comedy this time. Satires on film industry will make audience giggle. They did not leave even Dil Raju and Siddarth. Meanwhile director satisfied mass audience by inserting action episodes at right moments. Its these entertaining elements which made first half impressive. Brahmanandam took that responsibility in the second half. He created hilarious comedy as Pilli Padmanabha Simha.

Its Srinu Vaitla’s habit to ascribe some weakness to Brahmi’s character and create comedy from it. In Dookudu he created comedy from reality show. Like wise he created Dream World concept in this film. It’s sure to break into laughs by watching Brahmi, who lives in dreams. In fact one forgets the hungama created by MS in the first half, after Brahmi’s full flow in second half. Though some shades of PadmaSri character from Dookudu are visible in Brahmi’s character, audience will break into laughs in theatres.

NTR character has four shades. Each character has got a different style and mannerism. Even NTR’s dialogue delivery has slight variations. NTR took good care in this respect. He incorporated almost all angles like comedy, emotion and action. Complete actor in NTR has come to the fore. The expressions of NTR while putting satires on Dil raju and Siddarth will entertain fans. As a bonus, NTR reminded senior NTR by appearing in Justice Choudhary get up. He regaled audience by dancing for old songs. Though there is nothing new in choreography, as its NTR who is dancing for songs, songs will charge up fans. Kajal once agian steals hearts as innocent girl. Though appearing overboard, Kajal’s Banthi philosophy dialogues will create laughs. As all the other characters are played by senior actors, they have done their bit well.

Srinu Vaitla once again banked on his strengths. He tried to run cinema basing on dialogue comedy. Story, narration, characters introduction, twists and turns are all like his earlier films. It appears that if Dookudu is made in other way, it will become Baadshah. But no choice. As this a huge budget movie, he might have tried to make it a safe hit. That’s profitable idea for producer. Many mistakes have been done screenplay wise. As there are numerous characters, audience will get confused at times. Except Brahmi, MS and NTR characters no other character draws attention.

Some aspects of story appear silly. How Ramarao went to Hong Kong? How did he join in such a big mafia gang? Reason for Badshaah parents strained relationships, are all not shown properly. Punches went off very well in dialogues. Every serious dialogue of NTR receives thunderous applause. “My grandfather gave this name not for inscribing on my tomb but to write History,” This dialogue will get unending whistles from fans. Dialogue writer’s talent is proved in many occasions.

Thaman’s music did not lend much help to Baadshah. Songs are not very catchy but suited NTR’s steps. Background music was useful for build ups. Srinu Vaitla takes care of every aspect. Makes sure that everything is trendy. But story will be old one. If he had taken care even in this aspect Baadshah would have shaken Box Office. Even now, its fine. As this is summer, for audience who want to have a fun time, especially NTR fans, Baadshah is a feast.
