Team India captain Virat Kohli has once again climbed to the top position. Kohli has become the number one spot in the ICC’s latest Test rankings with 928 points.
Virat Kohli has overtaken Steve Smith to become the No.1 Test batsman in the ICC rankings. Kohli went past Smith thanks to his sterling hundred against Bangladesh in the Day-night Test against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens.
While Kohli was piling on the runs in India after a rare failure in the Indore Test, Smith was unable to match up to his high standards in the series against Pakistan where he managed to score only 40 runs with an average of 20.
However, while Virat Kohli scored a double hundred against South Africa and a hundred against Bangladesh, Steve Smith managed scores of 4 and 36 in a 2-Test series against Pakistan which was headlined by David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne.
Along with Kohli, India’s Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane are also part of the top ten amongst batsmen in Test cricket and stand at fourth and sixth respectively.
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is another Australia player to gain in the latest update, which also takes into account performances in the drawn New Zealand-England Test in Hamilton and the one in Lucknow that saw the West Indies defeat Afghanistan by nine wickets. Starc has moved up four places to 14th after grabbing seven wickets in the Adelaide Test.
