Review : Vakeel Saab – Pawan Saab all the way

Voila! Powerstar Pawan Kalyan’s comeback movie after a long gap of three years has finally arrived and the festive atmosphere at theatres is clearly palpable. In fact Vakeel Saab is also the first mega budget movie with a big star to be released in theatres after movie halls have been opened and as a result even movie trade pundits are also eager about its performance. Though an official remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s Hindi hit Pink, Vakeel Saab has lot of expectations riding on it and let’s know whether it lives up to the mega expectations.

Original story and its adaptation:

As we all know Vakeel Saab is the remake of Pink movie, which is about women empowerment. While Vakeel Saab makers have retained the gist and message of the original story, did heavy tweaking to the treatment and proceedings to suit Pawan Kalyan’s star image. Getting into the story, three young women Pallavi (Nivetha Thomas), Zarina (Anjali), Divya (Ananya Nagalla) run into a big trouble after they fight back a molestation attempt by a rich and influential spoilt brat. They run into serious risk and here steps in lawyer Satyadev (Pawan) to fight on behalf of these women. What follows next forms the crux of the movie.

Pink is a court room drama and it has been remade almost in the same fashion even in Telugu but many dialogues and references were included to match Pawan Kalyan’s on-screen and off-screen persona. At time this appears like deviation from the main plot but will please Pawan fans and will also be crunched by Telugu audience who are familiar with Pawan’s image.

Power-packed performances:

As already said, though its a remake, had been modified to suit Pawan Kalyan’s image. As a result, the story revolves a lot around Pawan and he has come up with power-packed performance. In fact several scenes and many dialogues have been included to match up to Pawan’s stardom. Also three young girls Nivetha Thomas, Anjali and Ananya Nagalla have lived up to their roles and are very impressive. Vamsi Krishna appears in a negative role. Also after a long time, we happen to see Prakash Raj in a good role in Telugu. The court room scenes between Prakash Raj and Pawan came out well. Shruti Hassan appears in flash back episode of the hero and has no real significance in main plot. Shruti’s role is clearly forced into the story, for commercial reasons.

Technical aspects and production values:

Being a Pawan Kalyan movie produced by star producer Dil Raju, Vakeel Saab has rich production values. But first of all music director Thaman needs to be appreciated. He has elevated the movie with his background score. Songs like ‘Maguva…maguva’ are already hits. Cinematography, action scenes, editing and other elements are in tune with the mood and message of the movie.

Finally, director Venu Sriram needs to be patted for adapting a concept-based Hindi hit film to suit a star hero image in Telugu. Though it appears at time to have deviated from the main plot, keeping in view the enormous expectations from Pawan Kalyan’s image, it appears justified. An unassuming director Venu Sriram has successfully delivered what Powerstar fans wanted.
